The Music Place School

The Music Place school is a wonderful place to learn about music. Our teachers all love music, they love to perform music, and they are devoted to helping others learn to do the same. We have hundreds of students who come back to us year after year. We believe they continue to come because they sense they're gaining something of extraordinary value.
What our students are gaining, we believe, is the ability to tap into the music they feel within themselves. The teacher's enthusiasm, the teacher's ability to transfer a deep love for music, and the students' hunger to express the music they feel all combine to make each lesson an experience worth coming back for, week after week.
But don't be deceived: studying music is hard work... lots of hard work. The enjoyment in studying music is not always present in each individual lesson. Our good students know that, so they just trust the teacher, faithfully attend each lesson, and dutifully complete their weekly practice assignments. And then one day an event surfaces that makes the whole experience totally worthwhile!
Public performance in one of those events. The individual lessons have their rewards in varying degrees, but the reward from performing is really something special! There is no feeling quite like the glow of hearing an enthusiastic audience out there applauding just for you!
We offer many opportunities throughout the year for our students to perform. We hold two large recitals each year, one at Christmas and the other in June, each one arranged as a professional stage performance at a local hotel. At these big concert-style events, our students get to experience the thrill of performing before a large audience consisting of hundreds of people.
We host a number of smaller performances throughout the year as well - no less than one each month - at coffee shops, seniors' homes, churches, and other venues as they come available. We do our best to make studying music at Music Place a much bigger experience than simply attending a weekly lesson.
The Lesson
Our lessons are all taught in private studios in our building. Our studios are spacious, temperature controlled, and equipped with the instruments and supplies required for the lesson subjects to which they are assigned. Each studio has a computer which we use to supplement our curriculum materials. This helps keep our teaching methods current and our lesson material interesting for today's active minds.
We strive to give you, our student, a healthy balance in your studies. It is our goal to provide you with a solid understanding of popular music as it is performed today while at the same time ensuring that you gain the fundamental knowledge of musical theory and history that no serious music student should be without.
For the most part, our lessons are taught on a private one-on-one basis, in half hour increments. The exceptions are for children younger than age 8 who are taught in groups and for advanced students who require more attention than can be given in a standard half hour time frame.
The Start
It is now up to you to make the start. Check out or lessons page, choose an instrument you want to play, then come on in and register. We'll be happy to have you with us and you'll be happy you made the decision.
Making music

Music Education
The benefits are greater than you think
Scientific studies have proven that active music making — not just passive listening — is connected to increased brainpower. Children involved in the study of music get better grades in school and achieve more in life. And new findings link active music making to measurable life improvements in adults as well, especially in older people. Loneliness, depression and even the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease have been shown to respond to music; some studies have even linked music making to better functioning of the immune system. Music making is for everyone — the benefits last a lifetime.
