About Us
Music Place opened its doors in Thunder Bay in 1983 as a piano and electronic keyboard sales centre. The business developed into a centre for music lessons some five years later with an exciting new keyboard course designed to help people learn to make music with the then novel electronic keyboards. In time it became apparent that the course had value as a credible music learning system and Music Place began to attract more students each year as the course continued to prove its effectiveness.
Music Place began to really earn its reputation as a music education centre when Dave Fontaine took control of the school in 1995. Dave, a well known keyboard musician in Thunder Bay, had several years experience as a music teacher and had a keen interest in teaching popular music. The course he discovered at Music Place contained everything he needed to fulfill his desire to coach people into learning music by playing the songs they loved. The business has been in a continuous growth pattern ever since.
Dave now manages the overall business jointly with Gary Hoddinott and Andrew Hamilton assists Dave in the operations of the school. Positioned to serve students, music hobbyists, and family oriented musicians, Music Place is growing substantially every year and is gaining an ever larger presence in the Thunder Bay music community.
